Should I Book An Elopement Videographer?
Is it worth booking an elopement videographer?
I see this question asked SOOOOO often on Facebook groups. As an elopement videographer & guide, obviously, I think it’s a great idea, but rather than just me saying “yeah, it’s a great idea, do it!”, I thought I’d write down some of the reasons WHY I think you absolutely should book an elopement videographer to capture an elopement video of your elopement!
Five reasons why you should book an elopement videographer
1. a different perspective
An argument that I often hear people giving as to why you shouldn’t get an elopement videographer for your elopement is that your elopement photographer & videographer will “capture very similar content and therefore it’s not worth it”. Whilst they will be capturing the same scenes, often they’ll capture unique perspectives that you would miss if you didn’t have both. Although there are a lot of similarities between the two disciplines, there are enough differences that will result in unique perspectives captured.
2. emotion
One of the things I love most about the medium of video is that you’re able to capture dialogue and audio in your elopement video. This is probably one of the biggest differentiators between video and photography. Being able to capture you two committing your lives to each other with beautiful vows or reading letters that your family have written to you to read on your wedding day in a beautiful location and then integrating this into your elopement video is so amazing! My favourite elopement videos that I’ve created have been where the dialogue (vows, letter readings, etc..) play a big part in the storyline of the elopement video.
** If you’d like to watch an elopement video that shows this so well, I suggest that you watch this beautiful winter elopement in Northern Ireland.
3. atmosphere
Often I find that elopement videos can capture the atmosphere of a day in such a beautiful way by integrating the background sounds that you hear on the day. Often I integrate the sounds of happy laughs while you’re getting ready, the seagulls flying overhead as you hike to the lush green meadow where you’ll say your vows or the waves crashed on the rugged cliffs below you. All of these sounds add to the experience of your elopement day and when integrated into your elopement video.
4. Something to hold
One of the things I often find interesting with elopements (and weddings in general) is that so often couples prioritise things that they will have for a short time on their wedding day. For example, they might prioritise a particular stylist, caterer, etc.. and whilst all those are awesome, a lot of those things are experiences that you’ll have on your wedding day but in a years time, you won’t have any more.
Elopement videography & photography are two of the things that you get to hold, take home with you and share, even with people that weren’t at your elopement. Often these are the only two things that couples have to “show” from their elopement and SOOOO often couples book me because they want the experience that I help to create on the day and then to be able to watch that back in years to come/share it with their friends & family that weren’t there on the day.
5. No regrets
Out of all of the elopements that I’ve been extremely fortunate to capture, I have NEVER had a couple say that they regretted booking me as their elopement videographer & guide.
For me it’s all about the experience, so I work with my couples to make sure that they have an AWESOME wedding day and whilst I do that, I capture an AWESOME elopement video for them that they cherish for many years to come and that often becomes a family heirloom that they can share with their kids, parents, siblings, best friends, etc.. Making sure that my couples have the best experience is the most important thing for me when I work with couples as an elopement videographer & guide.
