You just got engaged & want to elope; what do you do now?

Eloping is amazing. It's romantic, exciting and adventurous but there are so many options. Here's my quick guide to help you on your elopement journey.

City, beach, mountains, or something else?

What type of elopement do you want? Do you love the buzz of the city? Do you enjoy culture, nightlife and parties? Or are you do you want the quiet solitude of an empty beach with miles of sand for you to kick your shoes off and listen to the waves break on the shore? What about mountains and cliff tops? Stunning views that stretch for miles into the wild wilderness? Perhaps you want all three? Whatever kind of elopement you're looking for, you can have. That's the beauty of eloping; you can make it what you want.

Where in the world?

You can elope anywhere! The cultural cities of Europe, the beaches of Greece or the wild wonder of Ireland. You can go wherever you like. I'm based in Ireland and think this is simply the best place to elope to. Here we have the great cities of Belfast and Dublin, rich in history and with a buzzing nightlife. There are hundreds of miles of deserted beaches; some of them even have their own castle that keeps watching from a craggy clifftop. The Irish are some of the friendliest people on earth, and their welcome is as warm as their firesides. The other great benefit of Ireland is how close everything is. You can have an elopement that takes in a tranquil beach, a ruined castle, a clifftop vista and finishes with a pint of Guinness in a traditional pub, and you can do it all in one day!

Who’s your Dream Team?

Once you've picked your location, the next thing is to assemble your dream team. I would always recommend starting with the photographer and videographer you want. The images from your elopement are what will stay with you for years to come, so you must get the people you want to capture the day for you. Once you have them in place, then you can start thinking about dresses, flowers, and all the other things that make an elopement beautiful. Established photographers and videographers will be able to recommend the best local people to be part of your Dream Team. Over the years, I've worked with amazing people here who add that little extra to make the day the best it can be.

What to wear?

Once you have the location sorted and the dream team ready to go, you can start thinking about what to wear. Suppose you're picking a winter elopement in Ireland, which is stunningly beautiful. In that case, you need a whole different outfit for a summer beach elopement. Wool suits, shawls and an emergency umbrella can make a massive difference to you enjoying the day. My other recommendation for a colder elopement is chemical hand warmers to slip into your pockets. It's phenomenal the difference they make on a winter elopement; a wee shot of Irish whiskey also helps to keep the cold at bay!
